March madness, indeed

March madness, indeed

Okay, perhaps it was less insanity and more “doing good,” but March was an incredibly busy month for our team – packed full of conferences and events, announcements, conversations, and airline miles. Check out our timeline of events below for the scoop! Techkriti – Kanpur, India Techkriti is one of the largest student-led technology and entrepreneurship events in India/Asia. We were the title sponsor this year – engaging some of the smartest minds in this part of the world, and talking to the students (future CEO, COO and CIOs of India) about the advantages of having their own online presence to showcase their work and projects and to have a voice of their own. SXSW – Austin, TX This was our second year exhibiting at the Interactive Trade Show. We had the opportunity to meet some really fascinating people, including (but not limited to!) those from +SocialGood, the UN, Beaconfire, WWF,

The History of .org

The History of .org

Established as one of the original top-level domains (TLDs) of the Internet in 1985, .org has a history almost as long as the Internet itself. For more than 25 years, .org sites have helped create engaged, empowered communities – both online and off – thereby having a tremendous impact on our culture, our economy, and our world. Derivation of the Internet During the 1970s, Bob Kahn (an electrical engineer) and Vint Cerf (a computer scientist) collaborated and together designed the architecture and communication protocol that gave rise to the modern Internet. This was during a time when institutions in Europe, Asia, and North America were working on establishing their own computer networks, making the problem of how to join individual networks into a “network of networks” a greater point of focus for the international networking research community. First domain was launched The first domain name ever was symbolics.com – registered

Four Reasons Why Your Nonprofit or NGO Should Register .ngo and .ong

Four Reasons Why Your Nonprofit or NGO Should Register .ngo and .ong

“NGO” is the widely recognized acronym for describing Non-Governmental Organizations; “ONG” has the same meaning, but it is specifically used in regions of the world that speak Romance Languages (i.e. Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese). Why should global NGOs|ONGs choose to use the .ngo and .ong domains? 1. Validation The .ngo and .ong domains will only be available to genuine NGOs. This is the validation that the NGO community has asked for, an exclusive domain that identifies them as a unique set of organisations. Beyond the validation, as a .ngo|.ong domain holder, you are automatically entered into our exclusive online NGO directory, which includes a customizable online profile for your organisation. Your profile will help you find and share information with other NGOs across the globe, promote your organisation to potential donors and partners, interact with like-minded organisations, and raise funds online to support your cause. The NGO Portal will

What Are the Eligibility Requirements for Registering .ngo and .ong for Nonprofits and NGOs?

In developing the .ngo and .ong domain extensions, Public Interest Registry has consulted widely – both geographically and by sector – with members of the NGO community. For the purpose of .ngo and .ong validation, we use seven distinct characteristics to define an NGO: 1. Focused on acting in the public interest Whether in support of education or health, the environment or human rights, members of the .ngo community work for the good of humankind and/or the preservation of the planet and do not promote discrimination or bigotry. 2. Non-profit making/non-profit-focused entities While many NGOs engage in commercial activities or generate revenue in support of their missions, members of the .ngo community do not recognize profits or retain earnings. 3.
