InterAction Forum – #Unite4Change

InterAction Forum – #Unite4Change

Tomorrow, June 9th, marks the 30th anniversary of the annual InterAction Forum, happening in the Nation’s Capital, and we can’t wait for the festivities to begin! The annual conference brings together leaders, experts, and attendees from sectors all over the world including: governments, not-for-profits, philanthropies, corporations, civil societies, and NGOs. This platform helps to unite those with a common goal: to fix global issues with global change. It truly is a beautiful thing to see people of all sectors, from all over the world working together and harnessing the strengths from different areas to create and sustain change. Your Public Interest Registry team is thrilled to be exhibiting our .org, .ngo, and .ong domains (coming soon!). We believe the .ngo and .ong domain names will offer non-governmental organizations new ways to improve their online presence, expand their global reach, and ultimately engage with donors. Our team encourages those who are

Public Interest Registry Offers New Internationalized Domain Names To General Public

Three New Top-Level Domains Now Available for Registration RESTON, Va., May 27, 2014Public Interest Registry – the not-for-profit operator of the .org domain – today announced the general availability of three new Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) which translate to “organisation” or “institution” in non-Latin-based scripts – one in Devanagari, one in Cyrillic, and one in simplified Chinese. Previously only available to qualified domain trademark holders, all interested companies, organisations and individuals can now register for the new domains. With these new IDNs serving as useful branding tools, the domains will enable website owners to brand their addresses in native scripts, ultimately making the Internet more user-friendly and encouraging heightened communication. “Our mission at Public Interest Registry has always been to help organisations maximize their audience reach and better communicate their missions, activities and accomplishments. The launch of these new international domain names speaks to the heart of that mission,” said

Technology Leaders + For Purpose Orgs = #FPtech Love

Over the past two weeks, our team traveled across Australia to meet with the local NGO and fptech community – yes, that’s a thing! – to talk about innovation and the changes coming to the Internet, implementing key digital marketing strategies, and capacity building to create a positive impact and become a powerful force within the sector. First, we attended Connecting Up in Gold Coast. This is an annual conference that focuses on change, new opportunities, and helping fp organizations to find solutions and improve any and all aspects of their organisations’ operations. Insightful? Indeed. The event kicked off with none other than our friend over at NTEN, Amy Sample Ward, who gave an amazing keynote that simplified the idea of innovation and totally left us all with several Aha! moments. For future reference, innovation doesn’t always have to be BIG; it can start out as something very small that

March madness, indeed

March madness, indeed

Okay, perhaps it was less insanity and more “doing good,” but March was an incredibly busy month for our team – packed full of conferences and events, announcements, conversations, and airline miles. Check out our timeline of events below for the scoop! Techkriti – Kanpur, India Techkriti is one of the largest student-led technology and entrepreneurship events in India/Asia. We were the title sponsor this year – engaging some of the smartest minds in this part of the world, and talking to the students (future CEO, COO and CIOs of India) about the advantages of having their own online presence to showcase their work and projects and to have a voice of their own. SXSW – Austin, TX This was our second year exhibiting at the Interactive Trade Show. We had the opportunity to meet some really fascinating people, including (but not limited to!) those from +SocialGood, the UN, Beaconfire, WWF,

The History of .org

The History of .org

Established as one of the original top-level domains (TLDs) of the Internet in 1985, .org has a history almost as long as the Internet itself. For more than 25 years, .org sites have helped create engaged, empowered communities – both online and off – thereby having a tremendous impact on our culture, our economy, and our world. Derivation of the Internet During the 1970s, Bob Kahn (an electrical engineer) and Vint Cerf (a computer scientist) collaborated and together designed the architecture and communication protocol that gave rise to the modern Internet. This was during a time when institutions in Europe, Asia, and North America were working on establishing their own computer networks, making the problem of how to join individual networks into a “network of networks” a greater point of focus for the international networking research community.
