RESTON, Va. (December 5, 2011) –Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 6, 2011, The Public Interest Registry (PIR), the organization that manages the .ORG domain extension, will present a webinar entitled, “Product Spotlight: How Nonprofits or NGOs Can Take Advantage of the Newly Evolved Internet.” In conjunction with the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN), the webinar will address the imminent changes to the Internet and expansion of top-level domains (TLDs), and PIR’s pursuit of the new TLD, .NGO.
With the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) planning to allow companies and organizations to apply for new TLDs in 2012, PIR intends to submit an application to obtain the .NGO domain extension, which will present non-governmental organizations (NGOs) worldwide with an exclusive place online where they can differentiate themselves under self-imposed and self-governed regulations.
“Through PIR’s work with .ORG—the trusted domain for the international non-profit community for the past 25 years, we’ve noticed that NGOs strongly identify with and take pride in those three letters,” said Brian Cute, chief executive officer of the Public Interest Registry. “We look forward to engaging with webinar participants to further explain our intent for .NGO, how it will differ from .ORG, and to make sure we encompass their online needs in our application that we will submit to ICANN in January.”
During the webinar, participants will also learn about:
- ICANN’s new Top-Level Domain (TLD) program and how it will change the Internet as a whole;
- The added benefits and services that will accompany the .NGO domain;
- Why PIR is the most qualified organization to manage the .NGO domain.
