.ORG Announces “World Voices” Campaign

Reston VA – April 9, 2008: Even though .ORG, The Public Interest Registry has played a key role in the operational governance of the world’s most important communications medium, it has kept a low public profile and sought little attention for its work in managing millions of online addresses.  That is, until now.

All that is about to change as new CEO Alexa Raad plans not only to increase the profile of .ORG, but also to give the diverse .ORG community more visibility and greater clout in the Internet world.

“The contributions of the .ORG community in recent years are amazing.  They have not only helped to galvanize interest in various causes, but by adopting trends such as social networking, have given individuals unprecedented means to inspire, educate, collaborate,  and ultimately change the world as we know it.”  Raad added, “The ‘World Voices’ Campaign is designed to highlight the contributions of the .ORG community as well as position .ORG, The Public Interest Registry, as a passionate steward of the namespace and a fierce advocate for the rights of its community.”

“World Voices” is a multi-track campaign which includes sponsorship of the WEBBYs, the Internet’s global awards competition, and the People’s Voice Voting Campaign that encourages web users worldwide to vote for their favorite websites.  There is also the “Extraordinary .ORGs,” a community driven initiative on the .ORG website, which honors everyday organizations with extraordinary ideas.  In addition, .ORG is offering new tools and resources through a redesigned and enhanced website and organizing public events internationally to promote them.

She adds, “We are also about creating ways to provide tools for community building and online social networking. A new .ORG website provides resources and ideas for a reenergized .ORG identity and community.”
