About IGF
The Internet Governance Forum was established by the World Summit on the Information Society in 2006. Since then, it has become the leading global multi-stakeholder forum on public policy issues related to Internet governance. More specifically, it gives stakeholders from developing countries the opportunity to engage in the debate on Internet governance alongside developed nations, thereby allowing these stakeholders to build knowledge and skills that will facilitate their participation in existing Internet governance institutions.
It is important to note that IGF is an open forum rather than a membership forum; It has no power of redistribution, and yet it has the power of recognition – the power to identify key issues that could affect future policies and agendas around the use and growth of the Internet.
