Domain Name System Veteran, Becky Burr, Joins PIR as Senior Policy Advisor

Public Interest Registry (PIR) is thrilled to announce a significant expansion of our Policy team with the addition of highly respected domain name system veteran, Becky Burr, as Senior Policy Advisor.
Becky brings deep expertise at the intersection of policy, privacy, and Internet governance to PIR. Her insights will be invaluable to PIR and our nonprofit mission to be an exemplary domain name registry that provides a trusted digital identity for those working to improve our world. In this new role, Becky will advise on a broad range of strategic policy matters and will engage with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) workstreams and global Internet governance matters. She will play an essential part in PIR’s current and future policy initiatives and expand on her extensive experience in the industry working to strengthen the entire domain name system.
Becky recently completed nine years of service on the ICANN Board of Directors. During that time, as a Partner at HWG LLP, she advised clients on the requirements of privacy and consumer protection laws across the country and internationally. In her previous roles as Chief Privacy Officer and Deputy General Counsel at Neustar, she was responsible for implementing the “privacy by design” framework and maintaining the company’s data protection and security programs to protect customer and consumer information. In addition, she provided guidance on a variety of policy issues related to advertising technologies, domain name registry services, and Internet governance matters. As a partner at WilmerHale, Becky counseled multinational companies on global data protection compliance and incident response. She has also held senior government roles in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s NTIA and the Federal Trade Commission, where she helped shape domestic and international Internet and communications policies, including the formation of ICANN.
