Introducing Fully Internationalized Domain Names

ICANN, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers, is on a path to introduce new top level domains.  At .ORG, The Public Interest Registry, we are considering this an opportunity to introduce fully internationalized domain names (IDN), bringing our long-standing best practices of managing the .ORG registry to advance the use of the Internet across the globe.  A fully internationalized domain name would have the name and the .extension entirely in a specific language script.  Why are we considering this?  The answer is in our public interest motivation.

.ORG Meets the SedoPro Partner Forum

I just returned from the 4th Annual SedoPro Partner Forum, which was held at the Casa Marina Resort, located on the island of Key West, Florida. The interactive workshops with Sedo’s management team and special guest speakers gave the attendees lots of opportunities to converse and mingle with domain experts and industry leaders.

2009’s Nonprofit Technology Conference - the Best Yet

The Nonprofit Technology Conference occurred this week in San Francisco. Technology issues as well as best practices were shared at the many breakout sessions from the 26th to 28th of April. I had the opportunity to present the session: “Building a Stronger and More Secure Online Community” on the first day of the conference.

Vote Now for Your Favorite .ORG During the Webbys People’s Voice Voting Period

The Webby Awards, now in its 13th year, has announced this year’s award nominees and opened up its People’s Voice Voting period. While the Webbys are awarded by a panel of judges, the public has a unique opportunity to cast their own vote, thereby selecting the winners People’s Voice awards. The voting period runs from now until April 30, 2009.

.ORG Domains are Informative, Trustworthy and Valuable says Survey Results

We conducted a brand survey at the end of 2008, reaching out to 10,000 Internet users across Europe and North America. We wanted to get a reading on two primary points – what types of organizations does a .ORG domain represent, and what characteristics are associated with a .ORG domain name.

DOMAINfest Wrap-Up

I attended the DOMAINfest Global conference this week in Hollywood, California. There were a great number of learning sessions on domain name acquisition, and value-driving strategies including build-out and monetization. Keynote speaker Steve Wozniak shared notable stories of the early days of Apple Computer and its enduring culture of innovation.
