Here and Now, The Maturity of DNSSEC

Today, we are in full production with DNSSEC, accepting second level signings from registrars.  This means that all registrars can offer added security protection to their customers by enabling .ORG web site owners to sign his or her domain name with DNSSEC.

The public’s interest is at the core of our mission at .ORG, making the need to provide improved Internet security and stability all the more critical – especially as Internet usage continues to grow exponentially. DNSSEC serves as tamperproof packaging for DNS and prevents man-in-the-middle attacks that put users most at risk.

DNSSEC may have been around for 18 years, and what has started out as a vision by a small group of technologists has transformed into a reality. And we, at .ORG, the Public Interest Registry couldn’t be prouder to be a part of what we see as a major leap forward for the Internet community.

After all, we’ve watched the Internet (as we know it) grow for 25 years -- from infancy to its teenage years and now into young adulthood.  With that maturity comes new challenges and responsibilities – and implementing DNSSEC is being responsible.
